Gini Deshpande, PhD is an investor, entrepreneur, and scientist with over 25 years of experience driving innovation across life sciences. Most recently, she served as a Partner at Cathay Health, a global venture fund investing at the intersection of healthcare, life sciences, and technology. Cathay Health is part of Cathay Capital, an international investment firm managing over $6 billion in assets. At Cathay, Gini played a key role in investment sourcing, fund strategy, and LP engagement, and served as a board member for portfolio companies. Gini continues to invest in transformative healthtech ventures as an angel investor.

Gini is a seasoned founder and operator with a strong track record of building and scaling life sciences ventures. As Founder and CEO of NuMedii, a pioneer in AI-driven drug discovery, she led the company in securing early funding, establishing strategic partnerships with pharma and academia, and collaborating with family offices to advance treatments for rare diseases. Earlier in her career, she advised startups on product-market fit and fundraising, led strategic marketing at Affymetrix, and directed an innovation unit at Boston Children’s Hospital, launching companies in medical devices, therapeutics, and diagnostics. She has also overseen complex IP portfolios, closed multi-million-dollar licensing deals, and fostered successful academic-industry partnerships. Today, Gini is an advisor to early-stage companies, offering operational expertise, industry insight, and a strong network to help founders grow and succeed.

A recognized thought leader on AI in healthcare, Gini frequently speaks at industry events and has served on the BIO Investor Forum Advisory Committee. She is also a passionate advocate for women in STEM and has spoken at the United Nations on gender equity in science and technology. She holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from Purdue University and completed her postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School.
